Reflect on what you are grateful for with regards to the externship. What people have been helpful and supportive? Who would you like to thank? What experiences have been really valuable? What about the 4 weeks are appreciative for?
It was a great environment to work in, everyone was so kind and helpful. My mentor, she helped by giving me a lot of different ideas on how she wants the photos to be taken. Since it was one of my first time taking photos of products for a company, it felt different and it's just something that didn't interest me. To me, I like to become a photographer for weddings or events like those. It suits me better and I like working with ways that I know how. I would still love to thank my mentor for not only guiding me on what to do but she isn't a photography person herself but her vision on how she wanted the photos to look like were awesome and clear. She also gave me anything that I needed in order to take great photos. For example, she brought in a light house so I will not struggle on the lighting because everyone knows that lighting is one of the most important part in photography. I appreciate everyone that worked with me, the building is not so big and I felt like I took some space but nobody seemed to be bothered by that and also my annoying music that I would play out loud! This externship made me realize that photography is not that easy. It gets frustrating at times when it comes to getting the right angle or lighting. But it did make me want to beat that challenge and no career will be easy and I need to accept that, so therefore photography is something that will be in my future for a while but not so sure about a career.
Describe how a specific skill you acquired in high school was valuable in your externship. How did you learn that skill? How were you able to use it? Or perhaps was there is a skill you needed but didn't have. How did you deal with that? High Tech High sorta taught me how to work in a fast paste. That's a good skill that I have mastered because if not, I don't think I would have finished 500 photos in 2 days. Taking art class and multimedia, I've learned how important lighting is. It's difficult for me to get rid of the shadows in my photos because we do not have the best set up but I still find ways to get rid of them. Some of those ways are finding the best angles and also using photoshop. I'm glad that High Tech High taught me photograph because if not then I would have to learn it and it would just waste a lot of time.
Some challenges I have faced so far are getting the right angles in photos, also lighting was an issue at first but my mentor brought in a light house where we can take photos in. She also brought in lights for the shoots which helped me a lot. One challenge that I've faced was trying to make each picture look like the ones on their business website. For example, the picture to the right has the same angle as the bottom picture. The bottom picture is the one they took a while back and have me retake them because the logo has changed. It was overall a fun learning experience and I am really excited to learn more!
Describe your project or internship. What are you excited about? Nervous about?I am currently interning at Dallmann Confections also known as Dallmann Fine Chocolates. I will be taking photos of their finish products and also fix up their website. I am excited to learn more about this business and learn how to professionally take photos. What makes me nervous is messing up their website, they have photos put up already and they look perfectly fine to me. But now they seem like it doesn't look good so the pressure is now on me. This will be a great experience if I ever want to pursue photography as a career in the future. Describe a new skill or new knowledge that you acquired this week while in externship. I was given sort of a instruction guide on how to take photos properly for the products. I am told to make a Artisan Story Card, which will begin on Monday, May 21st. I have taken some photos but I have to retake them because the lighting wasn't that great. I am also learning how to make chocolates, so far I have create a Salted Caramel chocolates and it was an experience that I am grateful for having. I am excited to see the outcome of this internship and see where it will take me.
